Founded in 1972, Castello di Ama has always been guided by the concept of Place as its guiding star.
From the very beginning, every creation has seamlessly integrated the structures into the hillside of the Borgo, ensuring that human intervention always remained in the background. Over time, contemporary art has intertwined with the estate’s philosophy, reinforcing the concept of Place and the importance of preserving it with the idea that a place transcends time and is, in a way, eternal, with an eye always turned to posterity.
From this philosophy was born the ARCA DEL VINO, a vault designed to preserve and nurture the aging of a selection of bottles set aside each year, with the intent of making them endure beyond the fast pace of the market.
The building—two floors measuring 60 meters in length and 9 meters in width—represents a contemporary feature with an ancient soul: it evokes crumbling ruins saved from destruction and granted new life. Enhancing its beauty, it blends perfectly with the Chianti landscape, of which it aims to be both an emblem and an innovation.
The underground floor is dedicated to the conservation of bottles spanning twenty or more vintages, while the upper floor eliminates divisions to create a single, open, and flexible space. It is here that visitors are welcomed and have their first encounter with the world of Ama.
The magnificent project by the Aniello/Tasca studio does not use bold tones or seek to impose itself aggressively; instead, it plays a fundamental role: welcoming visitors into a space where they can rest or seek information, guiding them into the landscape of Ama.
As in all aspects of Ama, human intervention is not meant to take center stage but should always serve to highlight and enhance the magic of the Place that is Castello di Ama.
